Project Media Literacy currently accepts applications on a yearly basis, in the Fall quarter. Application notices go out around 1st Week and are due Friday of 3rd Week. Depending on the volume of applications, PML may or may not be able to accept every candidate.
Membership in PML requires that you are an active UCLA student attending classes with about 5 hours of free time per week to devote to the group (this includes meetings, class visits, outside work). Flexible schedules are a major plus as they allow us wiggle room when scheduling with schools. We need dedicated members who are both interested in media literacy and teaching middle schoolers. PML is an outreach group and as such, there is no money to be made and we do count as volunteer work!
Members work in one of two teams, although we are a small family-style group and overlap occurs.
The Education group focuses on developing and enhancing our lesson plans with pertinent examples and fun, interactive activities. Education members create and analyze surveys which students take after the lesson plans in order to make the presentations as successful as possible.
The PR group creates and fosters PML's relationships with the schools we visit. This includes contacting new schools, setting up visit dates, and maintaining our existing relationships with the schools we have already visited.
